There are 27 million slaves in our world today. This is a blog about the fight for their freedom, and my relationship with Jesus Christ. I am committed to sharing His love with the world. With His 27 million children who are being sold, used, abused, raped, and killed everyday.

I am a member of the International Justice Mission at my University.

Together We Are a Force for Good

slaveryfootprint:

On January 11, National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, we want to leverage our social networks for good. Because there’s power in numbers, we’ve partnered with Thunderclap to help us out. Thunderclap is the first-ever crowdspeaking platform that helps people be heard by saying something together. It allows a single message to be mass-shared, flash mob-style, that rises above the noise of your social networks.

Visit our Thunderclap page to learn more and to pledge your support before January 11th. With your help, we can share the message of modern-day slavery like its never been shared before.

She remembers a home that looked fancy on the outside but ominous on the inside, a dark maze of bare chambers. She remembers the parade of men, one after the other, day by day, forcing her to have sex. She remembers contemplating death. She wasn’t yet 10 years old.

Her name is Sreypich Loch, and she was a slave in a Cambodian brothel. If she refused sex, she says, she would be beaten, shocked with an electric cord, denied food and water. “What else could I do?” she asks.

Loch, now around 20 years old, managed to escape that world and works today to rescue other girls. She helps grab them out of brothels, and she hosts a radio show in Phnom Penh, giving the girls a forum for their stories. It’s a groundbreaking effort for a young woman and former sex slave in this male-dominated society

Sexual hyper-aggressiveness and putting women in harm’s way are trademarks of the Bond franchise, of course.

Did you know that there are 27 million slaves in the world today, more than any other time in history? Most of these individuals work as forced laborers, which means most of the things we buy are made by slaves.

While you’re taking advantage of the biggest shopping day of the year, use our Free World app or online Action Center to ask your favorite brands to investigate their supply chains for slave labor. Tell them that you care about the people who make their products and that they should too.

To make this deal even sweeter, Slavery Footprint has partnered with One Mango Tree, Hand in Hand Sustainable Suds, and Coco Zen. Our generous sponsors will provide gift certificates to the 3 individuals who send the most letters on November 23rd.

Isn’t it ironic that being a hipster takes more than just wit and intellect? From your flannel tee and skinny jeans to your journal and single origin espresso, you’ve curated a collection of goods most likely made with forced labor.

Discover how many slaves work for you at www.slaveryfootprint.org.

In 1864, the Thirteenth Amendment declared that no one can be owned by another, yet today there are thousands held in modern day slavery. In the US, a majority of trafficking victims are women or girls who are forced into prostitution. On giveaway newspapers pages and bright computer screens, the ads are there. In crowded bars or elegant hotel lobbies, the transactions are made. Women and girls are bought for sex in the dark corners of our society protected by our willful ignorance…

We have had an absolutely incredible first year and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for discovering your Slavery Footprint and joining the community of individuals calling for products Made In A Free World.

For our birthday this year, we want to expand the MIAFW community to 1,000,000 people. Can you help grant our birthday wish by inviting 3 of your friends to discover their Slavery Footprint?
“Abolitionists around the country have been advocating for the passage of the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) – bi-partisan legislation that will sustain life-saving programs that fight human trafficking at home and abroad.

This legislation must pass before Congress adjourns at the end of the year. On September 4, IJM, the Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking (ATEST), and abolitionists around the country are mobilizing for the National Call-In Day to Pass the TVPRA!

There are many issues competing for your Senators’ attention right now, so they need to hear from constituents who care about ending modern-day slavery to make the TVPRA a priority. Let’s work together to generate 3,000 calls – from all 50 states. Will you help us?”

It only takes a few minutes to make a call - they even provide a script for you! Even though I am sick and have a sore throat I took five minutes to call my two senators - if I can do it, so can you!

Two weeks ago, Slavery Footprint embarked on...

slaveryfootprint:

Two weeks ago, Slavery Footprint embarked on our first ever social media campaign. We challenged our supporters to send 1,000 notes in 7 days to various apparel brands, asking them to investigate their supply chains for slave labor. We were absolutely blown away by the response. Not only did you hit the 1,000 mark, you nearly tripled it!

By sending these notes to our favorite brands, we’re sending a very clear message: Consumers want the ability to buy products made without slave labor. There is an untapped market of individuals who want to give their dollars to companies that share their same values- values that include freedom and choice for those working within their supply chains. We are championing a world where our favorite products are untainted by slavery - and it’s a solution that is garnering quite a bit of attention.

In a recent article published in the Atlantic, Isabella Bennett asks a compelling question. How often do we see a note that the ingredients in your grocery cart were harvested freely by people being compensated for their work? The Humane Association has trademarked the “No Animals Were Harmed” disclaimer and but does such tagline exist for cruelty to people?

She goes on to state that, “As consumers become more conscious of their purchases, a label on a box that distinguishes their product- ‘This company and its supplies submit to third-party audits on its labor standards’- would go a long way.”

Lucky for us, such a distinction exists. It’s called Made In A Free World and because of YOU, we’re one step closer to seeing that label in the marketplace.
